Lanzarote Key Information

Lanzarote is one of the Canary Islands’ most famous destinations. With warm weather all year long, extended beaches, and mesmerizing volcanic landscapes, this island a wide variety of activities both indoors and outdoors, amazing food, and welcoming people.

Although hotels and most tourist attraction spots have people who speak English, Spanish the dominant language on the island so it is important that you keep that in mind in order to avoid any kind of misunderstanding and prepare yourself before getting there.

One other thing that you should be aware of is the tap water, locals recommend that you should drink mineral bottled water instead as tab water is just desalinated seawater.

The tricky part

When moving around the island, although some towns are within walking distance, it is important to note that some places are rather far and that taking a bus or a taxi is recommended in order to get to your destinations as some places can be over 2 hours ways by bus.

So it is important that you do not assume that since Lanzarote is an island that everything will be at a close distance from each other. As a result, it is important to carefully plan your itinerary, check the distances and opt for the adequate means of transportation.

It is also recommended that you learn some Spanish phrases especially if you’re planning to take the bus as the main means of transportation around Lanzarote. Phrases like:

  • "¿Va usted a..?” (Do you go to..?)
  • "¿Cuántas paradas?" (How many stops?)
  • “¿Cuál es la línea que va a...?” (Which line goes to …?)
